The 5th Meeting on the Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology (ASVP) 2011 is as the continuation of four previous meeting held in Tokyo-Japan (2003), Seoul-South Korea (2005), Taipei-Taiwan (2007) and Bangkok-Thailand (2009). The present of 5th ASVP Conference and Congress will be conducted as a Joint Meeting with the 10th Scientific Symposium of The Indonesia Society of Veterinary Pathology (ISVP) 2011.
Currently, the global issues in the Human and Veterinary Medicine are the Emerging Infectious Disease (EIDs) especially zoonoses (such as Avian Influenza, Anthrax, Rabies, Leptospirosis) and also pollutions (toxic materials) resulting from industrial and human activities which mostly related to environmental issues such as global warming, environmental destruction and land conversion. Those important issues need solution through integrated participation of scientists and practitioner of medical diverse disciplines including veterinary pathologist, epidemiologist, microbiologist; and policy maker.
The human and animal bond as the host is of course involving strongly with microbes (agent) and the environment condition. These three pillars are affecting each other, worsen in one side will affecting the others and causing disharmony in living relationship. Therefore harmonizing the relation between human, animal and environment is absolutely needed.
Asian is the most fast growing region in the world with about 60% of world human population is the highly risk region of the environment problem resulting from industrial, agricultural, mining, and other activities. These deteriorating conditions will facilitate the emergence of many health problems in human and animals.
Indonesia has high biodiversity of wildlife and harbors 10 percent of all flowering plants, 12 percent of the world’s mammals, 16 percent of the world’s reptiles and amphibians, 17 percent of all birds and more than one-quarter of all marine and freshwater fish. However, this biodiversity richness will never remain sustainable if there are no efforts to protect and conserve these valuable resources.
Therefore, Indonesia is highly concern with the global issues of eco-health, emerging diseases, zoonoses, animal welfare, and related aspect to the veterinary medicine especially veterinary pathology by hosting a Joint Meeting of the 5th Conference and Congress of Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology (ASVP) and the 10th Scientific Symposium of Indonesian Society of Veterinary Pathology (ISVP). This meeting is urgently needed to facilitate an exchange of information on many aspects of veterinary pathology, and to foster friendship and collaboration between veterinary pathologist, educators, researchers and students working on animal diseases related to eco-health. This meeting will also be useful for sharing veterinary experiences and concerns.
The Joint Meeting of the 5th Symposium and Congress of Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology (ASVP) and the 10th Scientific Symposium of Indonesian Society of Veterinary Pathology (ISVP) is organized by the Indonesia Society of Veterinary Pathology (ISVP), The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology (ASVP)
